A smiling Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi celebrated his 63rd birthday by flagging off a mammoth crowd that braced the early morning downpour. This was the biggest crowd ever seen since Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga revived the Kabaka birthday run four years ago.
The Royal Mile that stretches from Twekobe to Bulange was full of people not yet seen at Kingdom events in recent memory. The other events that come close is the 60th birthday celebration at Bulenge which coincided with the opening of Masengere Building and Katikkiro Mayiga’s Ddamula hand over ceremony.
People of all walks of life participated in the run with proceedings going to awareness and treatment of sickle cell anemia. Prince David Kintu Wasajja was yet the again the chief runner participating in the 21km race alongside event chair Robert Kabushenga, the Vision Group CEO.
Kabaka Mutebi who will celebrate the birthday on April 13 (date of his birth) in Villa Maria in Buddu arrived at the Lubiri shortly after 7.00am with his convoy struggling to snake through the mammoth crowd. He must have been contended with the turn up given the circumstances of the day – a heavy downpour.
