For the fourth year in a row, Ugandans turned up in their thousands to participate in the Kabaka Birthday Run which was held at the Mmengo Palace on Sunday. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi flagged off the runners.
The Kabaka arrived at his palace at 7.00am accompanied by Princesses Katrina Ssangalyambogo and Joan Nassolo to a thunderous welcome. Prince David Kintu Wasajja participated in the 21km run. Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga was at hand to welcome him.
Ronald Kawaddwa, the CEO of Majestic Brands, the kingdom company responsible for events said they had procured 30,000 kits and they sold out. He was echoed by Robert Kabushenga when he told the audience that next year the target is 50,000 people.
Hon Ruth Achieng the Minister of Health represented the government of Uganda. Proceeds from this year’s run will go towards support of sickle cell disease.
In his remarks, Katikkiro Mayiga congratulated the Kabaka on celebrating his 62nd birthday. He urged the Kabaka’s subjects to always screen for sickle cell disease before they get married and when they get children.
